Extractions

After an extraction, the doctor will advise you of the best post extraction regimen. In most cases, a small amount of bleeding is normal. It is usually best not to smoke, rinse your mouth vigorously, or drink through a straw for 24 hours as these activities may delay the healing process.

For the first few days, if you must rinse, rinse with care. Afterward, if pain or swelling occurs, apply a cold cloth or compress. Ask the doctor about pain medication and be sure to follow directions carefully. You can brush and floss the other teeth as usual, but be careful not to clean the teeth next to the tooth socket.

When having an extraction, today's modern procedures and follow-up care, as recommended by the doctor, are in place to provide you the patient great benefit and comfort.
